Lohengrin Foundation
The Lohengrin Foundation’s mission is to advance equity, opportunity, and justice to eradicate systemic barriers and promote vibrant, safe, and thriving communities.
Thriving Youth, Stronger Communities
In 2024, the Lohengrin Foundation launched, Thriving Youth, Stronger Communities (TYSC). This early-stage capital initiative was created to support the development of a new youth and community center in Chicago, where young people can build connection, confidence, and opportunity in a safe, supportive, and empowering space.
From an initial pool of 73 submissions, the Foundation identified seven semi-finalists, each of which presented a compelling vision for a youth and community center that can support young people for generations to come. One organization will receive up to $15 million in early-stage capital support, distributed through milestone-based investments from pre-development through completion.
We invite you to visit Thriving Youth, Stronger Communities to learn about the Semi-Finalist Projects and our plans for the next step in our finalist selection process.
Lohengrin Foundation Launches Strategic Plan Framework
For more than 50 years, the Lohengrin Foundation has invested in organizations and initiatives that advance racial, social, and economic justice, education, the arts, medical research, arts education, humanitarian response, and international development.
In the winter of 2024, the Foundation approved its 2024-2027 Strategic Plan, highlighting its core priorities, guiding principles, and grantmaking program areas, which focus on Education Equity and Social Justice. We are delighted to share the Strategic Plan Executive Summary with our current and prospective grantee partners and the community at large.
New grantmaking guidelines with funding timelines will be phased in beginning in the fall of 2024, with our Movement Building and Systems Change grant program area.
Educational Equity
We believe that educational opportunities, alongside strong academic leaders who focus on eliminating inequitable practices, can help secure lifelong success regardless of zip code, race, ethnicity, or economic status.

Social Justice
We believe movement-building, community safety initiatives, and social change efforts led by those who are impacted by injustice are the most powerful drivers of change. When we center justice and equity within communities that have been disproportionately impacted, we understand that all communities benefit.
